Imagine a world where a single tool has the power to shape our future—offering limitless possibilities but also harbouring potential pitfalls.
How do we control this double-edged sword?
The discovery of fire was a game-changer for early humans, providing warmth, protection, and the ability to cook food. But, if uncontrolled, it could also lead to destruction.
AI, in many ways, is our modern 'fire'.
The allure of instant riches during the gold rush led many to make hasty and often detrimental decisions. A similar rush towards implementing AI without understanding its full implications could prove to be equally as detrimental.
There are 3 things we can do to ensure we get the most out of AI in a responsible and ethical way:
1. Problem identification and construction
It's nearly impossible to intentionally develop effective solutions without first understanding the problem.
Taking our time to identify and construct quality problems is essential. I promise the outcomes will be significantly greater.
"Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe" - Abraham Lincoln
2. Decentralised AI development
If you're working with AI and machine learning, you need to be held accountable. Transparency and accountability are non-negotiable.
Combining AI with decentralised technologies like blockchain is an exciting prospect.
3. Human-centric thinking
We must place people before profit and ask ourselves "Should we do this?" instead of "Can we do this?"
I believe most people don't go out of their way to intentionally imbue bias into their AI systems, but it can happen so easily without us being aware.
Tread carefully friends!
